(no subject)

Well, home at last...Ok actually I got here last night but getting on the computer was a no go, my Dad spent pretty much all evening up here playing with family tree stuff, not that that's a bad thing because it's really interesting finding out who you're related too, what they were, any skellies in the family closet, that kind of thing, it also gives you a really weird sense of belonging, at least it does me. There's a whole new perspective on history as well when you realise that your great great grandfather was a contempory of Nelson and Napoleon, kind of gives you shivers down your spine. We've worked back to 18... something so far but most of the web sites don't go back further than about 1837 so we're (I keep saying we, most of it is my Dad and Julie) going to have to start diving into the parish records after that.
Just when I think of all the crazy stories Jackie has about her family because they're all so close and have kept memories now I have a couple of my own; when my great grandparents got married my great grandad's uncle carved them a bed head out of an old prop blade that he'd got somehow while he was in the RAF, now I think that's really sweet and it's just one of those family stories that everyone else seems to have. This is why I never really liked having a small family, you don't get all of this. It's just a shame that so many of the older generation are dead now, I'd have loved to trace my Mum's side as well but my Grandad there makes it difficult, there's no father's name on his birth certificate...that's one skellie at least when you consider the time period!

Anyway, I should stop rambling for now, this is only supposed to be a short entry because everyone wants to use the computer today and Mum at least has a valid reason - important valid reason anyway, we all have reasons!
